Sveti Stefan
To get to Sveti Stefan in Montenegro, it’s best to catch a bus for a few hours from Kotor, which has a medi-evil castle that you don’t want to miss. The bus will take you to Budva, where it’s only five kilmoters further to Sveti Stefan. In the 15th century, Sveti Stefan was a fisherman’s village. All the fisherman were kicked out though by 1950 though and the town was preserved and turned into an ultra-exclusive celebrity hotel island. Lower Kotor was first built around the 12th century. It’s well-worth a visit, first of all because it’s a world listed heritage site. Second, because you get to enjoy the beauty of the ancient castle ruins and city walls, looming over you on the mountain above, while enjoying extremely cheap accommodation, food and hospitality from the friendly locals. The city walls and castle on the mountains, however, were built around the year 530 AD. Lorna and I weren’t sure if we were going to visit Montenegro at all.
